As a little girl, I remember being told that I didn’t need a book in order to learn. It was a pretty accurate statement considering that I grew up in a home where there were no books. I knew I liked reading in order to learn, but I still had to do a lot of reading around school to learn about other cultures and languages, so it was a pretty big learning area.
As a parent of an elementary schooler, it was great to see this little video game give us a peek into the world of literacy, but it also points out that we must find a way to encourage more school reading during the school year. After all, it’s not only about literacy, it’s about a childs’ ability to read and think critically about the world around them.
I mean if your child is reading in school, that means that they are reading and thinking. As a parent, I wish I knew more about what they were reading. I really don’t know until I actually hear what their reading entails.
The problem is, they don’t necessarily understand the nuances of their reading until they’re at the reading level they should be reading. I know this from experience. I am one of the lucky ones who can read at least a paragraph without having to pause for words. The downside to this is that my reading comprehension is pretty low and I have a hard time understanding simple sentences.
My reading proficiency varies quite a bit. I read the same book for a couple of years and then I started doing other things like running, playing basketball, and just general playing a whole lot of video games. As a result, I have a much better understanding of what I read. Which is awesome, because I can read a novel and I can easily understand what the author is writing about.
If you’re looking for a way to get more reading done, you might consider the option of a “super reader”. These are people who are able to read for a number of different reasons, not just for books. For me, one of the top reasons I read is because I love the story. This is why when I read a book and I know what it’s about, I can immediately identify with the characters and feel a connection to the story.
The other reason I read is because I want to understand the story, and it can be hard to do if youre just reading it for the story. A super reader can read a book and understand it without actually having to read it and then go back and re-read it. A super reader is able to read and understand a book and then go back and re-read it, like a fan.

All super readers feel that they have to read a book in order to understand it. I often find myself reading a book and not understanding a thing. So to me, super readers make me want to read more books.
