It’s been a few years since I’ve written about the new trend of self-aware devices. The truth is, I haven’t been a fan of the new devices in the long-term because it can create a lot of friction. There is a large market for devices with sensors that track our activities, and the devices that we have in our homes can monitor our mood, our sleep, and our health.
The thing is that most of the sensors are already embedded in pretty much every device in our lives, so this trend makes things more difficult. It’s like when you have a cat box in your kitchen and yet you still insist on keeping a cat. It’s a strange thing to say, but I think that companies are making more and more of these self-aware devices because they want to control our entire lives.
